The Commissioners Court serves as both the legislative and executive branches of county government. The Texas Constitution specifies that it consist of:
Texas County government is generally an extension of state government, focusing on:
- The judicial system
- Records and licenses
- Law enforcement
- Jail services
- Health and welfare
Many State administrative responsibilities rest with the court, as well as a growing number of permissive authorities. The Commissioners Court has budgetary authority over all County departments and other elected officials.
The Rockwall County Commissioners Court meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 9:00AM on the 3rd floor of the Historic Courthouse at the following address:
