Teen Volunteers

Every year the Rockwall County Library has opportunities for teen volunteers who are interested in serving their community. These volunteers make a real impact on the library's operations, and the job they do is very important to the quality of service we provide at the Rockwall County Library. The minimum age requirement to be a teen volunteer is 13 years old. Listed below are the teen volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.

Library Page

Each semester (fall, spring and summer) we take applications for new Library Pages. Volunteers are required to:

  • Commit to 1.5 hours of volunteer time per week
  • Be dependable and able to volunteer on a set day each week
  • Be able to attend one interview and one orientation session before beginning volunteer work.
A teen who meets these qualifications may go on to become a Library Page. It is imperative that a Library Page have both a desire to volunteer and an appreciation for the library. Please consider whether you would enjoy straightening bookshelves, organizing books in alphabetical order by author’s last name, and shelving the books exactly where they are supposed to go. These tasks are the primary duties of a Library Page. Because we have so many applicants, not everyone will be able to volunteer as a Library Page. It is for this reason that we have an interview process. If you are interested in applying for a Library Page position, please complete and submit the Teen Volunteer Application below.

Special Events Volunteer

If you are a teen that would like to volunteer at the library but you don’t think you can make a weekly commitment, we do have volunteers that contribute to the Youth Services Department for special events only. Each semester the Library’s needs vary, and due to the high level of participation we cannot guarantee a certain number of hours for each Special Events Volunteer. If you are interested in applying for a Special Events Volunteer position please complete and submit the Teen Volunteer Application below. If you are accepted as a Special Events Volunteer, you will be contacted about your availability for programs and events as they occur.

Summer Reading Club Volunteers

Each summer in addition to our Library Pages we have approximately 100 Summer Reading Club Volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in the summer with the Summer Reading Club you will need to attend a Summer Reading Club Orientation. Information about this orientation will be available by May 1st.

If you are ready to apply, please fill out the Teen Volunteer Application . You may submit the completed application by email or in person at the Youth Services “Ask Me” desk. Once your application has been submitted, please wait for us to contact you with information about your interview and/or orientation. If you have applied in the past and are still interested in volunteering, you can contact us by phone or by email. If it has been more than a year since you last volunteered at the Rockwall County Library, please submit a new Teen Volunteer Application.

If you have any questions about becoming a Teen Volunteer or the status of your application, you can contact the Youth Services Department directly at 972-204-7740 or email our Teen Volunteer Coordinator .
